Vinyl Siding Maintenance
You have recently had vinyl siding installed on your home, and it looks great. It has a terrific warranty and never needs painting, but are there any routine maintenance tasks the you need to perform to keep your vinyl siding looking good? You bet there are.
Cleaning Your Vinyl Siding
The preferred method of cleaning vinyl siding is to use a soft cloth or a soft bristle brush. The brush is best on textured siding, because the bristles will keep the grooves and texture from developing stains. A general cleaner such as Simple Green or similar products will take care of most vinyl siding cleaning tasks. For harder stains like rust, paint, grass, grease, and others, consult the siding manufacturer's brochure. For mold and mildew, use a vinegar/water solution or a combination of laundry detergent, bleach, household cleaner, and water. Power washers are not recommended by some vinyl siding manufacturers, but others allow power washer use at lower pressure settings.
Preventive Siding Maintenance
To avoid hard to remove stains, be careful around your vinyl siding when spraying insecticides, pesticides, sealers, or stains. Cover the siding if necessary. Excessive heat can also cause siding to warp, discolor, or melt. Keep heat sources such as barbecue grills, wood stoves, and fire pits away from your siding. Although normal sunlight produces temperatures well within the design range of vinyl siding, reflected light from windows particularly energy-efficient windows, can produce harmful temperatures. If necessary, block the reflected light with screens, sunshades, or shrubbery.
Cleaning and maintaining your vinyl siding is not a task that needs to be performed frequently. A yearly or bi-annual inspection and cleaning as required will keep your vinyl siding looking new for many years.
Vinyl Siding Colors
Vinyl is an amazing siding product because it is extremely fast and easy to
install, and once it is finished you don’t have to do anything to it ever again,
besides a simple wash here and there. I particularly enjoy the way vinyl can
transform an old worn down house into a beautiful masterpiece in just a day or
two!

considering to have your home resided. Picking a contractor to work on your home
is like selecting a beautician to style your hair. It’s not safe to just go to
anyone because too many things could go wrong. If you do take that risk and
something does go wrong, your home, just like the hair on your head, can be
viewed and insulted by just about anyone. Unfortunately, they haven’t invented
hats for houses yet.
